![]() Gynecomastia May Affect Half of MenWe recently updated our gallery of cosmetic procedure before and after photos in an effort to put them into groups for organization purposes. While we were reflecting on the patients whose lives we've touched, we realized that over the past year, it seems we've had a slight increase in the number Gynecomastia patents. Gynecomastia, or man boobs, as they are sometimes referred to by guys who notice their chests enlarge, particularly as they age. As a man gets older, testosterone generally decreases, while estrogen remains the same or increases. Combined with weight gain and lack of exercise, these and other factors can contribute to the condition, which may affect as much as half of men at some point in their lives, according to an article on WebMD.com. It doesn't seem fair that only women should be able to receive a breast lift, a cup-size increase or a breast reduction, in the hopes of achieving a more youthful appearance, an enhanced bustline, and greater self confidence. Through cosmetic procedures such as the Crescent Breast Lift or a Fat Transfer procedure, also performed at Stein Medical Institute, patients have more alternatives than ever, and they keep getting safer and less painful, thanks to minimally-invasive technologies such as Vaser. We're glad to see more men than ever taking a closer look at their physical appearance. We've always been proud to help men toward a more masculine appearance if having enlarged chest makes them feel self-consious or uncomfortable. Treatment for Gynecomastia, which frequently makes men self-conscious and embarrased from teenage years on, is simple and effective: Vaser under local anesthesia. We have patients fly in from Europe and around the country for this life changing procedure, and fly back after only a few days. For men with larger breasts, removal of extra skin may be desireable for best results. Also under local anesthesia, this is generally accomplished by a "donut lift" where a circumferential strip of skin is removed as a circle around the nipple. The scar from this is nearly invisible, being placed around the areola where color naturally changes. It is performed when only in large male breasts when there would be draping loose skin due to the volume removed by Vaser.
