Eating the right foods for beautiful skin

04/24/2009 - SteinMed Blog - Link to This Entry

Aging may be natural but that doesn't mean you have to give in to it. You can still look great as you grow older, and having radiant younger looking skin can play a huge part. How do you do that? Believe it or not, the foods that you eat not only affect your health, but your skin as well. One of the most important things that you can do to help your skin stay healthy is to eat the right foods. Try to incorporate a few of the following into your daily diet and you will see clearer, more even toned younger looking skin.

Protein:  It is necessary for cell repair and helps keep aging in check try to incorporate egg whites, skinless chicken and turkey breast and above all plenty of fish.

Fats and oils: provide anti-inflammatory protection and youth-preserving antioxidants. Fatty fish provides anti-aging omega-3 fatty acids; salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna are among your best bets for looking lovely. Consider cooking with extra virgin olive oil or sprinkling a little on a salad for an extra daily serving.

Fruits and Veggies: Fruits and vegetables are particularly important for preventing premature skin aging because they contain a wide variety of antioxidants. Many of the pigments responsible for the color of fruits and veggies are -- among other things -- potent antioxidants. These antioxidants help protect skin cells from damage by free radicals given off by sun exposure and pollution.

Whole Grain Products: are a rich source of fiber which is extremely important in order to keep the digestive system clean. A clean digestive system helps to improve the appearance of the skin. Try to avoid high glycemic carbohydrates which contribute to inflammation in the skin. And help to create age-accelerating free radicals which break down your skin’s collagen.

Water, Water, Water: Its’ benefits to your skin and overall health are endless.

Consider adding topical antioxidant creams (including A, C and E) to your skin care regimen in order to get the maximum effect. Try Skin Medica’s Retinol, Vitamin C and TNS Recovery Complex all of which help to restore skin tone and texture while repairing environmental damage to your skin. A combination of the right diet, the proper daily skincare regimen along with Stein Medical Institute's effective skin care treatments will help your skin to look radiant and amazing!
